Von: glenng@castle.net (Glenn G. Geisheimer) Datum: 15.10.98, 18:01:37 Betreff: MESSAGE FROM LIST ADMINISTRATOR Hello B-W Researchers, This message is being written due to the recent numerous off-topic postings. Running a mailing list with over 900 subscribers is not an easy chore. As a List Administrator you have to know when to step in on controversy or when to just let it run its course. Up until today everyone who posted an off-topic message was sent a personal email explaining the problem. This is how Mike and myself have chosen to handle the problems on the list, to treat everyone as adults and not chastise them, singularly, in front of the list. BUT it is important that everyone know that this is what we do and not to reply to off-topic posts. If you wish to reply to them please do it off-list. At the present time Mike and I are working on a B-W Mailing List FAQ to explain all the rules, and yes, there are rules for this list. The majority of these rules are RootsWeb rules. If you wish a preview of them you can visit my Essex County Mailing List FAQ at: The rule for replying to a message is simple, include only the text of the original reply that is necessary for your reply to make sense. CUT everything else. There are two reasons for this: some ISP's have a size limit on a person's message cache. After that is reached, the messages start to bounce and they don't receive them. The second is that too much quoting is VERY confusing to the reader. Also please refrain from making any wild accusations on the list. Mike and I are always here for your questions and complaints. In closing I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation. Given the immense size of this mailing list, it is very heartening to see how smoothly this list runs. A little bump once and awhile is expected. Glenn G.
