Dear Subscribers,

because it seems to me that the traffic on the list didn't
come back to a more moderate volume I changed a few settings
which affects the list:

1) Messages larger than 30KB are blocked
2) Replies to a message will go by default to the sender
   privately and not to the list.
3) The digest message will come a bit later and perhaps
   a little larger. This helps to bring the digest back
   to a repeat rate of once per day.

Additionally I have a few suggestions to all:

1) Try to be On-Topic. Keep in mind that every message you
   send to the list went to several hundred people! Other
   kinds of discussions should be held in a private way.
2) Send thanks and private information only direct to the
   sender of the question. Sometimes you have to decide if
   the information is also valuable for the whole list. This
   decision is in your hand!
3) Keep the subject line of your message as detailed as you
   can be. This helps the other people to decide if the
   message is valuable for them (Thanks to Bill ;-).
4) Don't reply to a off-topic posting to the list. Please
   be sure that I and Glenn will pick up these messages and
   remind the people writing it to the "Netiquette" of the
   list.

I hope that these tips and actions will lower down the time
I must spend to remind people here. Yes, the merger was a
major change to the list but I think that we all can profit
from the larger knowledge base now.

Please keep together with me the helpful and kindly
behaviour we have long time ago.
