Von: kathyg@infospinner.com (Kathy Goodman) Datum: 20.03.98, 08:49:17 Betreff: Researching Trip to Germany Good morning all, Just wanted to let you know some of the great resources I have found on the web to research my trip to Germany. Thanks also for the help from many of you. On Map Quest I was able to find the small town of Täbingen (yes it is correct, not Tübingen). So my cousin's spelling was correct. Following the description of the area that Rev. Nelson R. Sulouff (from this list) so kindly so kindly gave me, I was able to zoom into the exact road to take south of Stuttgart from A81. http://www.mapquest.com Then, using the WebPage he suggested and clicking on English: http://www.teleauskunft.de/ I was able to find three people in Täbingen with my ancestor's surname. I wrote a one-page letter, which I am getting translated to German, to send to them. Following the advice in "In Search of Your German Roots" by Angus Baxter, I will enclose a self-addressed air mail envelope and two International Mail Coupons from the post office. Hopefully, I will get a reply from one of the three. At this site, I found a link for "German for Travelers" that has common terms you might need. http://dictionaries.travlang.com/GermanEnglish/ At this site, I found a link for "Travel Advice" that gave good information such as how to pay for parking, including pictures of the machines. And why to keep 50 pfennigs in your pocket at all times. And tours to go on, such as the Rhine River Day Cruise. http://gogermany.miningco.com/ At this site I found all kinds of information about Germany, things to know in advance and how to travel in Germany, including how to use the trains: http://www.germany-tourism.de I am continuing to research and plan for my trip. Is it appropriate to post what I am finding helpful as I go along? Thanks for all your help, Kathy Goodman McKinney, TX
