Von: Thomas.Scharnowski@t-online.de (Thomas Scharnowski) Datum: 11.02.97, 22:15:21 Betreff: Wuerttemberg, REMS-MURR, nicknames for villages and their inhabitants Hello to all, if your ancestors are coming from the area REMS-MURR in Wuerttemberg, you might be interested in some information about nicknames that are used between the different villages here. These nicknames are normally some centuries old and still valid when people want to make fun of themselves. I copied this nickname information from a small book onto my homepage, it is in German language with some swabian merged in. To make you curious for more, I will try to translate one nickname story: The people from Endersbach are called ERBSAKLEMMER (pea-sticker) for the following reason: There was once a wine-farmer in Endersbach, who lost again and again the poles in his wine garden by thiefs. As he could not catch them, he made following trick: he stuck a small green pea into the bottom end of all his poles. Next spring he just checked out all other wine gardens, where the peas were growing. So he found out who stole his poles...
